Oak Fern | Kitchen Part II

@katebuilds wanted a statement kitchen palette inspired by #scandiboho and paired with a bold colour. With a massive skylight flooding this kitchen with natural light all day, we knew we could incorporate a saturated green without darkening the space. An opal finish on the backsplash tile and tambour panelling on the range hood provide subtle texture for visual interest.

Oak Fern | Living Room

The space lacked an anchoring point, so we installed a new contemporary fireplace from @regencyfire to ground the furniture placement. The asymmetric location of the fireplace is balanced visually by shelves flanking one side and an extended hearth on the other. Natural, woven fibres and wood infused the boho vibes @katebuilds was after 🌿

Oak Fern | Staircase (feat. Taz!)

@katebuilds was looking for a contemporary take on boho design for this renovation, so the staircase’s crystal cascading light fixture and heavy spindles needed to go… and fast… as fast as Kate can take down a wall 😆! We paired the clean, modern lines of horizontal metal railings with a natural cane chandelier to create warm statement reflective of Kate’s aesthetic.

The ‘before’ had A LOT going on 😂 Those checker tiles and mirrors everywhere needed to go! We expanded the footprint of the ensuite to include a larger walk-in closet, a separate water closet and much bigger shower while high windows frame the foliage 🌿

There are so many thoughtful upgrades to this kitchen - picket tile backsplash to the ceiling, custom organizers, coffee area, child-friendly finishes, better lighting placement, expansive countertops - to name a few. However, it’s the large picture windows capturing fruit trees and new found ocean views which Ashley has a soft spot for 😊

There are so many changes we made to this kitchen to improve its functionality, but the biggest part was removing the wall between the kitchen and dining room to connect the spaces. Goodbye compartmentalized, poorly utilized kitchen and hello airy, bright, functional AND a new found ocean view!

Huddlestone Residence | Kitchen

The cosmetic transformation of this kitchen reused existing items while new cabinets doors, improved lighting and new drywall ceilings created a brighter space.
The greatest change in this kitchen is the updated island footprint anchored by two large scale pendants. We straightened the shape of this island to improve functionality and added a thicker, broken edge to the countertop as a nod to the original rustic cabin.

Huddlestone Residence | Mudroom Entry

Being the active entrance to the home for our client, this mudroom had a good layout but needed improved function within it.
We removed a framed closet to install millwork for better, customized organization and a live edge bench to sit on as you head out the door.
A brighter ceiling and textured window coverings freshen the space while adding a touch of character.

Huddlestone Residence | Dining Room

The original dining room and kitchen were very dark with solid wood @panabodeinternational ceilings limiting electrical locations. By framing down the ceiling just enough for recessed fixtures, we were able to also drywall between the beams to brighten the room and showcase the architectural woodwork.

Huddlestone Residence | Living Room

For this renovation, the client asked us to visually marry the original @panabodeinternational cabin with an addition added in the 1990s which was achieved by installing stained wood planking as a feature in the living room. An update to the fireplace adds a contemporary touch while furnishings were left neutral for an understated elegance and clear views to Huddlestone Beach.
